The Canadian Dragons Singapore

The Canadian Dragons Singapore are a competitive dragon boat team based in Singapore. Founded in 1989, we’re one of the first expatriate teams in the Little Red Dot. We’re a strong presence at local dragon boat events and have brought home trophies from multiple overseas races. We’re a proud member of the International Dragon Boat Community (IDBC) and an affiliate of Singapore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA).

PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD

Although our club was founded by a group of Canadian businessmen, you don’t have to be Canadian to join the team. In typical Canadian fashion, we’re a welcoming bunch and have members from all over the world. From Canadian to Estonian, French to German, Malaysian to Singaporean – all are welcome to grab a paddle, strap on a life vest and join us on the water!

RELATIONSHIPS THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME

Not only is our club a great way to stay fit, it’s also a gateway to new, lifelong friends and amazing adventures. We participate in events both inside and outside of Singapore borders and have organized trips ranging from wakeboarding in Indonesia to climbing to Everest base camp. Drinks on a Friday, dim sum at our favourite hawker center – we do it all!

What is dragon boating?

With its roots in ancient Chinese legend, dragon boating is a traditional canoe discipline with immense popularity in the world over at both the recreational and competitive levels. The Chinese dragon – the classic version of which has the head of an ox, antlers of a deer, mane of a horse, body of a python, claws of a hawk and fins and tail of a fish – decorate the bow and stern of the long, narrow craft. The hull of the vessel is often painted with scales to represent a dragon’s body and the paddles symbolise its claws. The dragon boat is powered by a crew of either 10 or 20 paddlers, helmed by a coxswain and led by a drummer.

Corporate and Team building events

Teamwork is the key to victory
Dragon boating is all about teamwork. In fact, the only way to win in the sport, is to work together in perfect timing towards a common goal. It’s a great way to build strong relationships with your teammates and co-workers and to get to know them better. Quite similar to working on complex projects or problems at work, right?
Work together in a different setting
The Canadian Dragons offer corporate and team building packages for those interested in having some fun and working together in a different setting than usual. Plus, you’ll get to see the great Marina Bay skyline in Singapore from a completely new angle. Previous companies who have participated in our team building events include local and international banks, hospitals, and community groups.
